COMMENTARY | Ralph Nader once famously declared that “the only difference between the Republican and Democratic parties is the velocities with which their knees hit the floor when corporations knock on their door.” I learned that lesson long ago, before Obama’s many broken promisesand before the promise of a second President Clinton.
When it comes to any potential Democrat presidential candidates for 2016, I’ll take none of the above, thank you very much. In 2012, I endorsed and voted for Dr. Jill Stein and her Green New Deal, “an emergency four-part program of specific solutions for moving America quickly out of crisis into the secure green future.” The Green New Deal consisted of an Economic Bill of Rights, a plan to transition to a green economy, real financial reform and concrete steps to restoring a functioning democracy (which former President Jimmy Carter recently said no longer exists in this nation) by curbing the influence of money in politics.
I am not sure if Dr. Stein will run again in 2016. I am sure that I will be voting for a truly progressive candidate, and that means in all likelihood that I won’t be casting a vote for any Democrat, especially not one like Hillary Clinton who supports corporate greed, wars, murderous dictators and Israeli crimes against humanity in Palestine.
